Svende Braun given leadership role with ATLAS

July 14, 2025

Svende BraunResearch Assistant Professor Svende Braun has been named Co-convener of the B-Physics Weak Decays Working Group within the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.

The ATLAS Experiment at CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, involves 5500 collaborators from 183 institutions---including UNM---in 42 countries. Researchers within the collaboration annually nominate outstanding members of the collaboration to serve as leaders (called "conveners") of studies of particular scientific questions using the ATLAS data.

Prof. Braun will oversee research in the area of weak interactions of systems involving the b-quark.

Research in this subfield may answer questions as fundamental as why the universe is dominated by matter and not antimatter.
