AdS/CFT - Entanglement Builds Geometry

In this talk, we discuss aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence, which is a mathematical duality between quantum gravity in Anti-de Sitter spacetime, and field theory on its asymptotic boundary. This relationship has led to the “It from Qubit” paradigm, within which gravity and geometry are viewed as emerging from quantum dynamics. We will use AdS/CFT to relate geometric/gravitational quantities, e.g. areas and volumes, with information-theoretic quantities, such as entanglement entropy, and (quantum) computational complexity. We will show that Einstein’s equations emerge from entanglement dynamics. Finally, we end by discussing some active areas of research, including the connection between gravity and quantum error correction.
