Challenging the Cold and Collisionless Nature of Dark Matter with the Milky Way Satellites

Friday January 26, 2024
9:00 am

 Presenter:  Soumyodipta Karmakar
Abstract:  As some of the faintest known galaxies in the Universe, the Milky Way (MW) satellites can provide crucial information about dark matter microphysics. In this work, we construct a forward model for the luminosity and stellar velocity dispersion of the MW satellites that incorporates important physics beyond the standard cold dark matter scenario. We then use this model to assess the sensitivity of current and future MW satellite observations to the particle nature of dark matter.
