Benchmarking trapped-ion QCCD quantum computers

Thursday April 11, 2024
3:30 pm

 Presenter:  Charlie Baldwin
 Series:  CQuIC Seminars
Abstract:  Trapped-ions QCCD systems are a leading platform for quantum computing. To build such devices and demonstrate improvements we rely on tools from quantum benchmarking. A standard task in benchmarking is comparing component-level errors (e.g. single- and two-qubit gate errors) to system-level benchmarking (e.g. quantum volume). In this talk I will describe three instances where we performed such a comparison to learn about error mechanisms in trapped-ion QCCD systems. The first is for the recent launch of Quantinuum’s H2 system, which has 32 qubits. The second is in identifying mid-circuit measurement crosstalk errors in a smaller system H1-1. And finally, I will discuss early work on applying such methods at the logical level with qubits encoded in the [[7,1,3]] Steane code.
