Free Physics Demo Night: Astonishing Feats of Physics
Physics Demo Night Could you make a beach ball hover in mid-air, using only a common gardening tool? Can two plates held together by a vacuum, defeat a team of people? What happens when you fill a 55 gallon drum with steam, then close the lid? How does fiber optics power the internet? The UNM Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Demonstration Show, on Wednesday, October 24, from 7-8 pm, in Regener Hall Auditorium (Room 103). High school teachers and students are especially invited to attend. UNM's Society of Physics Students and faculty will illustrate basic principles in mechanics, optics, electricity and magnetism with a giant Newton's Cradle, beach balls, a Human Gyroscope, Rocket Car, Optical Fibers, Laser Interference, the Tesla Coil, and a suspenseful implosion. Come for a fun and entertaining evening! |
