Fascinating Toolbox of Subcycle Photonics

Thursday February 25, 2016
11:00 am

Presenter:  Dr. Denis Seletskiy, Department of Physics and Center for Applied Photonics, at the University of Konstanz
 Series:  OSE Seminars
Abstract:  Recent advances in ultrafast laser technology have enabled direct sampling of electric fields at frequencies from terahertz to mid-infrared. The ability to analyze and manipulate transients on subcycle timescales is at the heart of modern ultrafast science. Following quick introduction to broadband field detection, the talk will cover time and frequency-domain methods of waveform synthesis with subcycle control. The latter case will be supplemented with an example where controlled polar asymmetry in the synthetic fields at 40 THz is used to efficiently inject charge current in low-gap InSb semiconductors via quantum interference. The final part of the talk will motivate subcycle approach to quantum optics and will demonstrate first steps in this direction. To this end, I will conclude by sharing our exciting results on direct detection of quantum vacuum and approaches toward subcycle quantum tomography.
 Location:  PAIS-2540, PAIS
