On the production of dark matter and baryon relic abundances

Tuesday September 15, 2015
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Rouzbeh Allahverdi, UNM
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  After a brief review of the thermal history of the universe, I describe the general picture for producing the observed abundances of baryons and dark matter in the universe. I focus on the "WIMP Miracle", which has driven much of the theoretical and experimental investigations for dark matter, and point out key assumptions made in this scenario. Finally, I discuss some implications of relaxing these assumptions and the role of increasingly better observations in testing them.
