Abstract: |
I will describe a quantum field theory whose classical energy density can assume values that are arbitrarily negative but whose actual ground-state energy density is finite. This theory is a modern echo of the hydrogen atom which has a potential energy that is unbounded below but has a ground-state energy of - 13.6 eV. If there is time, I'll also show how to do Monte Carlo estimates of a system whose distribution is not positive definite. |
