Neutrino Oscillations in Dense Neutrino Media

Tuesday November 26, 2013
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Sajad Abbar (UNM)
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  Because of the neutrino-neutrino interaction the neutrino flavor evolution in a dense neutrino medium can be a very nonlinear and rich phenomenon. A number of neutrino flavor instabilities have been identified to exist which can result in large neutrino flavor transformation in dense neutrino media such as in a core-collapse supernova. In this talk I will present some of these instabilities, and I will show how one can understand them using some intuitive picture. I will also introduce a new toy model to examine the recently discovered flavor instability, the so called "multi-azimuth angle flavor instability".
