Large Scale Pulsar Surveys and Recent Discoveries

Thursday September 5, 2013
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Kevin Stovall (UNM)
Series:  Center for Astrophysics Research and Technologies Seminar Series
Abstract:  Pulsars are useful tools for a large range of topics including but not limited to the detection of gravitational waves; tests of theories of gravity; population studies of pulsars, neutron stars, and binary systems; and analysis of Galactic structure. A significant effort has been made over the past few years, and will continue into the foreseeable future, to detect many more new radio pulsars for these areas of study through large scale pulsar surveys. I will describe four recent/ongoing pulsar surveys and some of the latest results.
 Host:  Gregory Taylor
