In extreme astrophysical environments, neutrinos, so-called “ghost particles” which rarely interact with anything, can be so numerous that they interact with each other. Neutrinos exchange their flavors collectively via the weak force, similar to how electrons exchange momentum via a collective electromagnetic field in a plasma. The concept of flavor waves/flavomons, analogous to plasma waves/plasmons, has recently emerged as a way to understand the physics and flavor dynamics that take place. I will discuss recent work on flavor waves, focusing on a general treatment called flavor-wave transport, as well as the phenomenon of Landau damping.
