Abstract: Optical photons are exceptional carriers of quantum information, but the weak optical nonlinearities remain a major obstacle to scalable photonic quantum processing. Many operations required for universality and fault tolerance therefore rely on probabilistic, measurement-based protocols, which introduce substantial resource overhead and limit achievable clock rates.
In this talk, we will discuss how strong second-order nonlinearity in the thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform offers a promising route to change this paradigm, with optical parametric amplification as a remarkably versatile primitive. The same nonlinear building block can generate ultra-broadband squeezed states, provide preamplification for ultra-broadband, loss-tolerant quadrature measurements, deterministically generate error-correcting codes, and enable ultrafast all-optical switching and feedforward. I will present our recent advances in high-level traveling-wave vacuum squeezing, low-loss interferometers, and integrated photodiodes on the TFLN platform, paving the way toward scalable quantum information processing at room temperature and ultrafast clock rates.
