Application and Admissions Process

NOTE:  You must have an undergraduate degree in physics or its related field to enter the M.S. or the Ph.D. programs in Physics. Your undergraduate curriculum must have included upper-division courses in statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, and classical mechanics. Students must have earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (on a U.S. 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) work and in any graduate work already completed.

The application deadline for Fall admission is December 15 for the best consideration, but late applications may be considered.

The application deadline for Spring admission is August 1.

IMPORTANT: No changes to your application through the online system are allowed once you enter your digital signature on the application and click the SUBMIT button.

Before you submit your application, be sure these required components are included in your application. All materials must be received before the committee will review the packet.

Upload:

  • Letter of Intent
  • Transcripts
  • Assistantship request/info

Enter:

  • TOEFL or IELTS scores if applicable

Your test scores must have been received within the last two years

Optional:

For Fall 2022 admission, General GRE test and Physics GRE subject test scores are optional, exceptionally because of the continuing pandemic. You may submit your scores if you wish, but it will not hurt your application if you do not submit your GRE scores.
