P5: Highlights of the scientific priorities in high-energy physics this coming decade

Presented by Francis-Yan Cyr-Racine (UNM)

The Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5) was charged with developing a 10-year strategic plan for US particle physics (including cosmology), in the context of a 20-year global strategy. Having served on this panel for the last year or so, I will describe the process taken to develop this strategic plan, the hard choices that we had to make to meet our charge, and the final recommendations that we made to key US funding agencies. I will highlight certain elements that are particularly relevant to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNM, and conclude with some lesson learned about how science funding is prioritized in  the US.
