A Novel Observational Study of Southern HII Regions

Presented by Chenoa Tremblay (SETI)

Once thought to be barren and devoid of spiral arms or spurs, over the last 20 years the Vela constellation has provided a wealth of information about supernova remnants, HII regions, molecular clouds, and dark molecular clouds; with much of this region yet to be explored in detail. I will present the results of a large area (~400 square degrees) continuum and molecular line survey toward this region using new capabilities with the Murchison Widefield Array at 114 MHz, the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder at 724 & 889MHz, and with the Australian Telescope Compact Array at 1666 MHz. In this talk, I will discuss the work I am doing with a multidisciplinary team to discover new ways to study star formation using low radio frequencies and the results thus far.
