Introduction to computer algebra in Python with sympy

Presented by Anupam Mitra (UNM)

Computer algebra involves using computers to manipulate mathematical symbols, in a manner similar to how we do algebra on pencil and paper. This is a complementary tool to numerical computation, the latter involving using computers to handle mathematical expressions numerically. I will introduce sympy, a Python library for working with mathematical symbols and discuss examples from linear algebra, calculus and some physics applications.
