Finding Fermi's Missing Gamma-Ray Pulsars

| Abstract: | The unassociated sources of the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope have presented a consistent mystery during its mission lifetime, with nearly one-third of gamma-ray sources having no definitive counterpart in other electromagnetic regimes. In this talk, we will focus specifically on gamma-ray pulsars and explore the challenges involved in identifying them, including the various mechanisms by which they can be hidden from typical searches. We will highlight current efforts and results toward their discovery, including interesting updates on the cannonball pulsar J0002+6216. By better understanding the properties and behavior of gamma-ray pulsars, we can begin to unravel the mysteries of the unassociated gamma-ray sources observed by Fermi, and shed light on the diverse and exotic phenomena that occur in our universe, including the Galactic Center Excess, for which gamma-ray pulsars may provide a crucial clue. | |
