Insights into the formation, composition, and structure of exoplanets

Friday September 9, 2022
3:30 pm

Presenter:  Jason Steffen, University of Nevada Las Vegas
 Series:  Physics and Astronomy Colloquium
Abstract:  A variety of new software tools, new experimental methods, and new observational approaches open new avenues for understanding the properties of exoplanets and exoplanetary systems. I will discuss several developments from the exoplanet group at UNLV. Of particular importance is collaborative work with high pressure physicists who have made groundbreaking measurements of the properties of water ice—identifying a new phase of ice, which has implications for our understanding of water-rich exoplanets.
