Dark Matter, the Migdal Effect and Directional Detectors

Tuesday April 12, 2022
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Elizabeth Tilly, UNM
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  Dark matter is one of the largest mysteries in physics to date. Though astronomical gravitational information strongly suggests its existence, experiments of various types and sizes have yet to observe it. Now, detectors are beginning to reach the limits of parameter space that can be probed conventionally. In this talk, I will discuss two methods which can be the used to extend parameter space, directionality and the Migdal effect: what they are, how we can use them in dark matter searches, and a technique I have been working on to help characterize them.
 Host:  Dinesh Loomba
 Location:  PAIS-3205, PAIS
