Abstract: |
Reception at noon, Convocation ceremony starts at 1 pm
Our convocation speaker will be David L. Hayes. David received a BS Physics in 2005 and MS Physics in 2007 from UNM. He then went on to receive his PhD in Physics in 2012 at the University of Maryland. He writes, "I was part of Professor Chris Monroe's experimental quantum information group. I worked on ways to generate entanglement between atoms and photons for purposes of quantum networking, using ultra-fast pulsed lasers for coherent manipulations of quantum information, and error suppression techniques in quantum gates and quantum memories." After a post-doc position at the University of Sydney where he worked on trapped ion experiments that concentrated on error suppression techniques in quantum memories, David was a Senior Research Scientist at Lockheed Martin in Littleton, Colorado for two years as part of an atomic physics group. David writes, "I'm now at Honeywell Quantum Solutions where we're building a trapped-ion quantum computer. I'm the technical manager for the theory and architecture team." Covid-19 Event Protocol We will no longer be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test dated within the last 72 hours. Masks are required in the building. Please contact Alisa Gibson at agibson@unm.edu to register for the event and if you have any questions or concerns. |
