Software Version Control - Why and How

Friday September 10, 2021
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Dr. Darcy Barron (UNM)
 Series:  Computational Physics Seminar
Abstract:  I will give an overview of how to use version control in scientific research, and give some examples and workflows for how to use it effectively.  Version control is a powerful way to keep the equivalent of a lab notebook for your computational work, and is also convenient for writing code and papers collaboratively.

I will cover version control more generally, but we will be specifically working with git, which should be straightforward to install on any system:
https://git-scm.com/

I will also show some examples using remote version control with Bitbucket, which is a free cloud host for git repositories:
https://bitbucket.org/

Please contact the host for the zoom password if you would like to attend the seminar remotely.
