The Role of Entanglement and Complexity in Black Hole Quantum Mechanics

Friday December 4, 2020
3:30 pm

 Presenter:  Leonard Susskind
 Series:  Physics and Astronomy Colloquium
Abstract:  The huge entropy of a black hole suggests that the quantum mechanics of black-hole dynamics is extremely complex. Yet it has been difficult to make this notion precise. Quantum information theory, by bringing to the fore the notion of entanglement between different parts of a quantum system, is providing new tools to quantify the complexity of black-hole quantum mechanics.
 Host:  Carlton Caves
