Undergraduate Lauren Zundel presents at the 2017 Joint meeting of the Four Corners and Texas Sections of the American Physical Society

This program's highest priority is to serve underserved populations in the Southwestern states. Therefore preference will be given to women and minority applicants from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. However, well-qualified students of any demographic nationwide are also encouraged to apply.

Students should be enrolled in a U.S. college or university in good academic standing and attending the fall semester following the summer program. Preference will be given to students beginning at least their junior year. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the USA. Accepted students must complete the ten-week program and all requirements, including working typically M-F 9 am-5 pm, attending seminars, and giving presentations.

The program begins with an orientation on May 29, 2018 and runs until August 3, 2018. You must have your own health insurance, as it is not provided by the program.

Required application materials:

  • This web-based application
  • Official college or university transcript
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Current résumé listing prior job experience, honors and accomplishments
  • Personal statement which includes research interests and career goals

The preferred method for submitting the transcript, résumé and personal statement is to upload them as .pdfs on the application form. If not possible for some reason, you can email them to physreu@unm.edu, or fax them to 505 277-1520. Although not the preferred option, your transcript can also be mailed to:
