Single Point of Contact

Please do not contact IT for problems involving the hardware, cabling, or software within the Department of Physics and Astronomy building or sub-buildings.

We are maintaining an agreement with IT that we will use what is termed in the industry as a "Single Point of Contact". The Point of Contact for the building at Yale and Central is Chris Moroney.

This avoids several problems which occur when everyone calls in his/her own problems.

We monitor all service requests to assure they have been called in, and that they get tended to, and that a complete "fix" has been performed when completed.

It avoids several personnel calling in the same problem causing multiple trouble reports to be generated at IT, and therefore multiple technicians attending the same problem. It avoids unknown or unwanted personnel calling in non-existent or false trouble reports to IT.

It avoids personnel not authorized being able to have network connections made that are not authorized.

All of these items are to help protect you and your computer uses from disruption or false and misleading trouble reports which cause everyone delays in service as well as the possibility of "crying wolf" syndrome making the technicians become untrusting of the department.
