Interesting Isomers - From classic nuclear physics to dark matter -

Presented by Ralph Massarczyk (LANL)

I will present in my talk two recent examples that study nuclear isomers and their decay. I will give an introduction on the physics and discuss the experimental detail of two setups: one using an en extremely hot source at LANL in a rather simple setup;one that uses a ultra-low-radioactivity setup  4850ft-deeo at the Sanford Underground lab for the decay of the world's rarest isotope. The results are the most sensitive search for classic nuclear beta decays and new pathways into into the dark sector while studying classic nuclear physics principles.
