Relativistic Jets on Event Horizon Scale in AGN: The State of Play

Presented by Anton Zensus Director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy

It has become possible in recent years to image the central regions around the expected supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei, with event horizon scale angular resolution. In this colloquium I will discuss the relevant current capabilities for Very Long Baseline Interferometry from Earth and Space and the developments and results of the Event Horizon Telescope. I will also address the opportunities they hold for the astrophysical understanding of relativistic jets and beyond and what future developments we can expect.
