Flat and steep spectrum radio quasars

Presented by Leonid Petrov (GSFC)

We used to think that flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQ) are somewhat special -- that these are active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with strongly beamed emission. But what about steep spectrum sources? Are they AGNs? Or they are AGNs without beaming? I will report results of observing programs that had the goal to answer that simple question.
