Supersymmetry as a Fundamental Symmetry of Nature

Presented by Rouzbeh Allahverdi, UNM

Supersymmetry is a remarkable subject that has fascinated particle physicists since it was originally introduced. In the simplest realization of this Bose-Fermi symmetry, the number of elementary particles in nature is doubled. At a fundamental level, supersymmetry algebras are the only generalization of the Poincare algebra that are consistent with relativistic quantum field theory. I will present a qualitative discussion of this important result.
