Variational Quantum Semi-definite Programming
Presenter:  Mark M. Wilde received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. He is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. He is an IEEE Fellow, he is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Career Development Award, he is a co-recipient of the 2018 AHP-Birkhauser Prize, awarded to “the most remarkable contribution” published in the journal Annales Henri Poincare, and he is an Outstanding Referee of the American Physical Society. His current research interests are in quantum Shannon theory, quantum computation, quantum optical communication, quantum computational complexity theory, and quantum error correction.

Opening the infrared treasure chest with JWST (or James Webb Space Telescope)
Presenter:  Dr. John C. Mather is a Senior Astrophysicist in the Observational Cosmology Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. His research centers on infrared astronomy and cosmology.

As Senior Project Scientist (95-present) for the James Webb Space Telescope, he leads the science team, and represents scientific interests within the project management. He has served on advisory and working groups for the National Academy of Sciences, NASA, and the NSF (for the ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter Array, and for the CARA, the Center for Astrophysical Research in the Antarctic).

He has received many awards including the Nobel Prize in Physics, 2006, for his precise measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation using the COBE satellite.

“Quantum Biology”: how nature harnesses quantum processes to function optimally, and how might we control such quantum processes to therapeutic and tech advantage
 Presenter:  Clarice Aiello:

Dr. Clarice D. Aiello is a quantum engineer interested in how quantum physics informs biology at the nanoscale. She is an expert on nanosensors harnessing room-temperature quantum effects in noisy environments. Clarice received her B.S. in Physics from the Ecole Polytechnique; her M.Phil. in Physics from the University of Cambridge, Trinity College; and her Ph.D. from MIT in Electrical Engineering. She also held postdoctoral appointments in Bioengineering at Stanford, and in Chemistry at Berkeley. Two months before the pandemic, she joined UCLA, where she led the Quantum Biology Tech (QuBiT) Lab. Since Nov 2023, she is the CEO of a startup unsurprisingly named Quantum Biology Tech (QuBiT) Lab, and is writing the first-ever textbook about Quantum Biology.
