Building Quantum Codes with Tensor Networks

Abstract: | Tensor networks are powerful tools that help us understand complex manybody quantum states geometrically. In this talk, I introduce a framework based on tensor networks, which generates different quantum error correction codes by gluing simpler codes in a modular manner. To demonstrate the flexibility of this framework, I will provide two explicit examples in which codes with geometric representations can be constructed. In the first example, I construct the 2d toric code using one type of simple tensor module. In the second example, I construct a new hybridized holographic subsystem code inspired by AdS/CFT. In the "noiseless" limit, it admits a local log-depth decoding circuit and reproduces certain properties of holography. Furthermore, the code can capture features analogous to gravitational back-reaction when "coherent noise" is injected. This provides a promising direction in simulating certain aspects of quantum gravity in future noisy quantum devices. | |
