Relativistic Jets on Event Horizon Scale in AGN: The State of Play

Friday November 20, 2020
3:30 pm

Presenter:  Anton Zensus Director at the Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy
 Series:  Physics and Astronomy Colloquium
Abstract:  It has become possible in recent years to image the central regions around the expected supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei, with event horizon scale angular resolution. In this colloquium I will discuss the relevant current capabilities for Very Long Baseline Interferometry from Earth and Space and the developments and results of the Event Horizon Telescope. I will also address the opportunities they hold for the astrophysical understanding of relativistic jets and beyond and what future developments we can expect.
