Fast neutrino oscillations: ELN crossing, dispersion relation and dynamic waves

Tuesday February 11, 2020
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Huaiyu Duan, UNM
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  The angular distributions of the electron neutrinos and antineutrinos can cross each other deep inside a core-collapse supernova. As a result, a dynamic oscillation wave can spontaneously develop on very short time/distance scales in an initially (almost) homogeneous neutrino medium. Such fast oscillation waves provide a new way to redistribute and transport the electron lepton number which can potentially affect the dynamics and nucleosynthesis of the supernova.
