In recent years, epsilon-near-zero materials have captured attentions of nano-photonics research communities because of it can be used to realize many novel optical phenomena. Since epsilon-near-zero materials start with small value of index of refraction, it is much easier to impact relatively large index changes and hence optical properties by external optical or electrical external stimulus. In this talk, I will share some examples of these effects.

Biography:
Willie Luk earned his Ph. D. in Physics from State University of New York at Stony Brook and joined Sandia National Lab in 1998. His early research interests were in high power ultrashort pulse laser development in the UV and NIR wavelengths studying light-matter interactions at atomic field strengths and got rewarded as a fellow of OSA. Recently, he has been interested in nano-photonics which includes photonic crystals, metamaterials, metasurfaces and epsilon-near-zero materials.
