Abstract:  The differential cross section as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity of the J/psi meson is measured at sqrt{s}=510 GeV from data taken by the PHENIX experiment in 2013. The measurement is performed at forward and backward rapidity ranges of 1.2 <|y|<2.2 and for transverse momenta up to 12 GeV/c. This measurement serves to shed light on the question of the J/psi production mechanism. The 2013 dataset provides unique challenges to the differential cross section measurement due to the effects of detector pile-up from multiple collisions. Techniques to quantify these effects are discussed.
