Quantum sources, memories, and applications: Better living through time-multiplexing

Thursday November 15, 2018
3:30 pm

Presenter:  Paul Kwiat, University of Illinois
 Series:  CQuIC Seminars
Abstract:  The usual pair sources of photons used for optical quantum information processing have the disadvantage that one doesn't know when the photons will be produced. However, using a time-multiplexing technique, one can realize a nearly deterministic source of single photons. Moreover, this can be generalized to produce multi-photon states at rates many orders of magnitude beyond what is otherwise possible. I will discuss our progress on such a source, a new "digital" quantum memory, and applications to a novel quantum cryptography protocol.
