Quantum-classical correspondence in a chaotic system

 Abstract:  We propose a method to quantify Bohr's correspondence principle and calculate the quantum numbers at which quantum-classical correspondence can be observed in Floquet systems. Our approach is based on analyzing the classical fixed points and stability of periodic orbits and can be applied to systems with a mixed phase space of both regular and chaotic regions. We show that the breakdown of correspondence in chaotic systems can also be explained by exploring the classical periodic orbits. We demonstrate our method in the quantum kicked top (QKT). This system is of particular interest because it displays regular behavior, bifurcations, and chaotic behavior in the classical limit, and is one of the few chaotic systems that has been experimentally realized. Using our technique, we calculate the conditions under which quantum-classical correspondence is observed in the kicked top. This also allows us to identify new signatures of classical bifurcation even in the deep quantum regime. Furthermore, we discuss the effects of classical periodic orbits, their stability, and chaos on the dynamics of quantum entanglement.
