Why Are We Here? The Mystery of Matter

Thursday November 16, 2017
5:30 pm

 Presenter:  Wick Haxton,
University of California Berkley
 Series:  Sigma Xi Public Talk
Abstract:  One of the unsolved mysteries of our universe is why it contains matter: why the
universe, in the Big Bang, failed to create equal amounts of matter and antimatter,
which would then annihilate against each other, leaving only radiation. Instead, there
was a small primordial excess of matter over antimatter. I will discuss the consequences
of this excess as the universe evolved, leading ultimately to us.
 Host:  Harjit Ahluwalia
Location:  Room C, UNM Conference Center
