Neutrino Oscillations: Fundamentals and Numerics

Tuesday December 5, 2017
2:00 pm

 Presenter:  Joshua Martin (UNM)
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  Neutrino physics is a rich area of study, displaying a variety of interesting physical phenomena. The ghostly particles are important for probing different astrophysical phenomena from solar physics, to cosmology, to supernova explosions. In this talk, I will explore vacuum oscillations, and the effect of a matter background and a neutrino background on neutrino propagation. I will also discuss the numerical methods implemented in pursuit of the solution to the nonlinear equations of motion which govern the phenomena, and I will discuss challenges presented by the solution.
 Host:  Huaiyu (Mike) Duan
 Location:  PAIS-2540, PAIS
