Abstract: | I will survey why noise sources beyond simple dephasing or depolarizing are important to understand in the context of fault tolerant quantum computing, and in particular in quantum error correction. I will discuss some methods for how to characterize coherent noise sources and correlated noise sources in quantum devices. Finally, I will discuss how we can tailor our quantum error correcting codes to the types of noise that we see in our devices to achieve higher noise thresholds. | |
