Abstract:  In this talk I will present the results obtained during my thesis. We worked with the shortcut-to-adiabaticity techniques, namely, techniques that manage to speed up the usually slow adiabatic processes. We applied these techniques to processes that are useful towards the goal of getting a scalable quantum computer in trapped ions. The processes we designed were transport, expansion/compression, ion separation, phase gates and rotations. The Hamiltonian of an N-ion chain is in general a coupled N-dimensional Hamiltonian. To simplify this, our approach was to work in the normal mode approximation, where the Hamiltonian became approximately a problem of N-independent harmonic oscillators, and simultaneously design the dynamics that keep this N oscillators unexcited. I will show the performance of the designed approximated protocols when simulating for the full (non approximated) Hamiltonian.
