Summary of SURF 2015: Low Background Physics

Tuesday November 17, 2015
2:00 pm

Presenter:  Greg Ottino, UNM and Montie Avery, UNM
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  Many exciting problems in experimental physics depend on the ability to make sensitive measurements of rare processes. To perform the experiments, extremely low backgrounds are needed to establish a signal. The Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) Conference, covered current results and future experiments in the topics of dark matter searches, neutrino oscillations, neutrinoless double beta decay, and baryon number violation, all of which require low background conditions. This talk will cover a portion of these results as well as a summary of the SURF facility in Lead, South Dakota.
 Host:  Dinesh Loomba
 Location:  PAIS-2540, PAIS
