Abstract: | We have searched over 18,000 hours of all-sky images from the LWA1 telescope, resulting in the discovery of 104 long duration (10 to 200 s) transients between 25 and 40 MHz. Early in 2014 we were able to show that nearly all of these transients were associated with large meteors (fireballs), and that they were the first detection of HF and VHF emission from meteor trails. We later captured dynamic spectra from two events, which displayed very steep and broad spectra. My talk will discuss these observations, our current model of the emission, as well as plans for further observations, which include high resolution imaging of the plasma density distribution within meteor trails. Such observations could have broad uses for both meteor and ionospheric research. | |
