Sexism in science today: myth or reality?

Friday May 8, 2015
4:00 pm

Presenter:  Shohini Ghose Associate Professor, Physics and Computer Science Director, Centre for Women in Science Wilfrid Laurier University
 Series:  Physics and Astronomy Colloquium
Abstract:  For years, a debate has raged about the status of women in science and technology. Does gender bias still exist? On one hand, women have made important contributions in all areas of science and technology. Recent articles in the New York Times, CNN, Washington Post and other media outlets have hailed the end of gender bias in science in academia. On the other hand, the proportion of women in many areas of science and engineering, including physics, remains low. This talk will discuss the data on the current status of women in science and examine the evidence for or against sexism in science in academia and industry. Where do we stand today and what can we improve? You decide.
 Location:  PAIS-2540, PAIS
