Some Current Topics in Semiconductor Tracking Detectors

Thursday November 20, 2014
3:30 pm

Presenter:  Carl Haber, Senior Scientist, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Series:  Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NUPAC) Seminars
Abstract:  While the LHC will soon begin a new run, plans are also underway for a higher luminosity upgrade in the mid-2020s. Dubbed the HL-LHC, this machine will increase the integrated luminosity by a factor of 10 beyond the original design. The two major magnetic spectrometer collaborations, ATLAS and CMS, are actively pursuing detector R&D aimed at tracking in the high luminosity environment.

This talk will cover a variety of topics in this realm in order to illustrate the challenges and potentials for new technology in support of tracking at the HL-LHC.
