Demonstrates: How electric fields can exert torque on a object.
Description: A small mass hangs from a special apparatus, in between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor.
Instructions: Use special apparatus to hang small mass. Open parallel plate capacitor so the mass can hang between the plates without touching either. Connect 4 kV supply to parallel plate capacitor. Turn dial on apparatus to show that the Electric Field will attempt to keep the mass aligned.
Items Used: Parallel plate capacitor, 4 kV power supply, small mass on fishing line, special apparatus.
