Single photon optomechanics

Gerard Milburn, The University of Queensland

(Session 5 : Friday from 11:15 - 12:00)

Abstract. The emerging field of quantum optomechanics combines quantum optics and new fabrication techniques to control the quantum state of macroscopic mechanical resonators. These systems are an example of a new kind of engineered quantum system in which supra-atomic, hybrid systems are engineered to have the desired quantum functionality. They have application to metrology and sensing and may enable new experiments at the quantum-classical boundary. I will give an overview of optomechanics and discuss some specific models. These include; single photon optomechanics, quantum entanglement in optomechanical networks and quantum-limited readout of phonon jumps.
