Abstract. Recent results from technology development efforts from DARPA's chip scale atomic clock program are indicative of a new paradigm to integrate atomic sensors for probing quantum wave functions with other chip-scale entities such as MEMS and electronics. This close integration not only provides a new tool box for atomic physics experiments, but might also lead to a new era of atomically calibrated signal processing, navigation, and timing. We are now pushing atomic clock on a chip technology to rival performance of the best beam clock and fountain clocks, enabling this performance integrated onto all electronic instruments of the future.
