Atomic ions as probes of molecular ions

Kenneth Brown, Georgia Institute of Technology

(Session : Thursday from )

Abstract. Atomic ions have been used to sympathetically cool a wide range of molecular ions from hydrogen dimer to buckyballs. Here we present our work towards using atomic ions to probe the properties of cold molecular ions. We also discuss potential chemical applications of the microscale devices built for ion trap quantum information.
