Current Events

New Announcements

• Determing Grades - Dr. Saul needs to update MA so that your lowest exam grade is dropped (this will be available by Monday)
• Finding your overall score in the class is tricky - you can't just add up the numbers
• Why not? => your score is a weighted average which means the category weights must be taken into account
• Good news - MA calculates the weighted average for you. From the bottom row labeled total, divide your total score by the total points to get your overall percentage.  Then check for the percentage ranges for grades in the syllabus to determine your overall grade.
• Note that categories with weights of 0 are not included in your overall score in the class.

Recurring Announcements

• Homework Extensions - Mastering Astronomy
• Although the late penalty for MA homework is 7% per day, you have 3 opportunities to request a one-week no-penalty extension on Mastering Astronomy homework assignments. To request an extension, just email Dr. Saul. Once the extension is granted, all pre-existing late penalties are removed.
• Extensions may be requested at any time after the assignment is due until the last day of class, Friday, May 4th.

• Errors on Mastering Astronomy or Course Website
• Sometimes you may find errors in the course website or online assignments.
The first person to email Dr. Saul with details on one of these online errors will receive 3 bonus homework points.
• Monday we will start taking attendance with iClickers. If your iClicker is not working or present, you may turn in a full sheet of paper with your name and responses to each question.
• If a question is asked more than once, you should have a response for each time the problem is asked.

• When you email me, please only use my unm email address <jsaul@unm.edu>.
• Using this email address with "Physics 152" in the subject line will make sure that I see your email promptly and will be able to respond quickly.
• It also helps me if you include your first and last name at the end of your email message text. That way I know who I am responding to and will help make my reply more pertinent.
• I will usually respond to emails withing 48 hours. If you do not get a reply withing 48 hours, please resend your email.
